Green Tea

The most researched plant on this label, and the one whose real effect is smallest relative to how it usually gets sold.

Where Green Tea Comes From

Green tea comes from the same plant as black tea; the difference is processing. Green leaves are steamed or pan-fired quickly, which halts the oxidation that turns leaves black and preserves a group of compounds called catechins.

The most studied of those is epigallocatechin gallate, usually shortened to EGCG. Extracts are standardised to a catechin or EGCG percentage, and that figure is what separates one green tea extract from the next.

One of twenty-three ingredients in every dropper

The Job It Does Here

Two jobs here: one modest, one worth counting.

The modest one is metabolic. Catechins have been studied for small effects on energy expenditure and fat oxidation. The measured differences are real and small — generally fractions of a kilogram across twelve weeks in pooled data. Calling green tea a fat burner rounds a fraction up into a headline.

The one worth counting is caffeine. Green tea extract carries it naturally, and this formula also holds Guarana, a second caffeine source in the same dropper. Total the two instead of dismissing each on its own. Coleus Forskohlii sits in the same energy-side grouping.

How Strong Is The Evidence?

Antioxidant content: settled. Catechins do genuine antioxidant work, and green tea is among the best documented sources of them.

Metabolic effect: real but small. Meta-analyses find measurable changes in energy expenditure and modest weight differences over months, small enough that diet and movement dwarf them.

Glucose effect: mixed. Some trials report improvements in fasting glucose or insulin sensitivity with catechins, others find nothing. Supporting rather than central.

Amount, Timing And What Is Disclosed

Undisclosed, inside the 200 mg blend. Trials measuring metabolic effects generally used several hundred milligrams of catechins a day, which is a useful number to hold against a blend weighing 200 mg in total.

None of that argues for leaving the bottle on the shelf. It is a reason to expect green tea here to contribute antioxidant intake and a little caffeine rather than drive a metabolic result by itself.

Who Should Check First

Two specific points. First caffeine: if you are sensitive, or already several coffees into a normal day, take this in the morning and count what else is going in.

Second, and more important: high-dose concentrated green tea extract has been linked to rare cases of liver injury, particularly on an empty stomach. This concerns concentrated extracts, not drinking tea. Do not run two green tea products at once, and stop and see a doctor for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine or unexplained exhaustion.

Vitamin K is present in green tea as well, which becomes relevant on warfarin.

Two Things It Is Not

Not the same as a cup of tea. An extract concentrates catechins far beyond a brewed cup, which is what makes both the effect and the caution relevant.

Not a fat burner. The measured effect is a fraction of a kilogram across months, not something you will feel.

Not medical advice. Prescription medication, pregnancy, breastfeeding or a diagnosed condition all mean a word with a doctor or pharmacist before you start. The full interaction list lives on the safety checklist.

Green Tea: Common Questions

What readers ask about this ingredient specifically.

How much caffeine does the dropper carry?

Undisclosed, and it arrives from two ingredients rather than one. Treat the dose as carrying a small but genuine amount and take it in the morning.

Does concentrated green tea pose a liver risk?

Rare liver-injury cases have been linked to high-dose concentrated extracts, especially on an empty stomach. Do not stack several green tea products.

Does it do anything for glucose?

Certain studies find glucose readings improving and others find nothing at all. Read it as corroboration, not as an established result.

Can I still drink tea?

Ordinary tea is fine for most people. The caution concerns stacking concentrated extract supplements, not the drink.
